【イギリス旅の準備その３】～６０歳からのイギリス旅～～

(1)I made a rough plan a few months ago, next I did more in detail,

especially London staying for 7 days.

私は２～３か月前に大雑把な計画を立てましたが、次にもっとくわしく計画を立てました、

特に７日間滞在するロンドンの。

(2)Probably I won’t be able to visit the UK again,

so I made the plan not to waste time.

多分私はもう一度イギリスを訪れることはできませんから、

時間を無駄にしない様に計画を立てました。

この場合のwasteは動詞で「無駄にする」

「時間を無駄にしない様に」は

I made the plan not to be a waste of time

とも表現することができるそうです

この場合のwasteは名詞で「無駄」

won't（ウォウント）　はwill not の略

(3)For example, Tower of London is close to the London Wall

and Tower Bridge,

so we are going to those places on the same day.

例えば、ロンドン塔はタワーブリッジとロンドンウォールのそばにありますから、

それらを同じ日に行くつもりです。

(4)I changed some plans.

For example, first, we were going to Greenwich by

Unattended operation train called DLR,

but we are going there by sightseeing river boat

because we’d like to enjoy the view from the boat.

いくつかのプランを変更しました。

例えば、私たちはグリニッジにＤＬＲという無人電車で行くつもりでしたが、

船からの景色を楽しみたいので、観光用の船で行くつもりです。

(5)And I changed the date of seeing Tower Bridge from 14th to 15th.

それからタワーブリッジを見る日を、１４日から１５日に変更しました。

(6)First, I thought if we are lucky,

we can look at opening and closing of the bridge .

最初、私は橋の開閉はもし運が良ければ見ることが出来るのかと思っていました。

(7)But when I searched for information about it in the official site,

I found the Bridge Lift times

でも公式サイトでタワーブリッジを調べていたら、開閉時刻表を見つけました。

(8)There will be 3 lift times at 8：30 a.m. , 2:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. on 15th.

１５日は午前８時半と午後２時半と午後３時に３回の開閉があります。

(9)We are going to see them twice at 2:30 p.m.and 3:00 p.m..

私たちは午後２時半と３時の２回見るつもりです。

(10)By the way, do you know Digger Land?

ところで、ディガーランドを知っていますか？

(11)It’s an amusement park of construction site.

それは工事現場の遊園地です。

(12)We can operate the loading shovel, forklift

and bulldozer there without a license.

そこで私たちは免許なしで、パワーショベルやフォークリフトやブルトーザーを操縦できます。

(13)I'd like to operate them regardless(in spite) of my age..

私は年甲斐もなく（笑）、それらを操縦してみたいのです。

(14)That sounds fun, doesn’t it?

面白そうでしょう？

(15)But according to the Google map,

it’s so difficult to go there by public transport.

ところがグーグルマップによると、公共交通機関でそこに行くのはとてもむずかしいのです。

(16)We have to change trains and bus three times before we arrive there.

そこに着くまでに３回、電車やバスを乗り換えなくてはなりません。

(17)So, I asked my daughter to take us there by car.

それで私は娘に車で私達を連れて行ってほしいと頼みました。

(18)Actually she had never been there,

she and her husband tried to go there on May.

実は娘はそこに行ったことがなかったので、５月に夫とそこに行ってみました。

(19)She said, “We were exhausted in spite of early morning departure.

If we leave London at 9:00, I am sure the road will be crowded.

Probably it will take over 2 and a half hours one way.

And my husband enjoyed operating them,

　　but they made me get nervous.”

娘は「私たちは早朝に出発したのに、くたくたになった。

もし私たちが９時にロンドンを出発したら、きっと道路は渋滞だと思う。

多分、片道２時間半以上かかると思う。

それに夫は重機を操縦するのを楽しんだけど、私はとても緊張した。」と言いました。

(20)We won't be able to leave in early morning,

because we must be hard for us to get up early

for long move the day before.

私たちは早朝に出発することは出来ません、

なぜならば、前日に長い移動があるので、私達にとって早起きはひどいに違いないからです。

(21)And it’s difficult to operate them without license after all.

それにやっぱり免許なしで重機を操縦するのはむずかしいんですね。

(22)That’s why, I gave it up.

そういうわけで、私はそれを諦めました。

(23)So we decided to go to Natural History Museum and British Museum

fitting our age instead of Digger land.

それで私たちはディガーランドの代わりに、年相応に（笑）自然史博物館と大英博物館に行くことに決めました。

(24)You know, British Museum has lots of collections,

we can’t look at lots of things in 3 or 4 hours.

ご存知のように、大英博物館にはたくさんの所蔵品があり、

３～４時間でたくさんの物を見ることはできません。

(25)So, I searched some information about them on line

and made a list what we want to see absolutely.

それで私はインターネットでそれらについての情報を調べて、私たちが絶対に見たい物のリストを作りました。

(26)I bought some train tickets on line 2 month ago,

but I made a mistake buying one ticket.

私は２か月前にインターネットで何枚かの列車の切符を買いましたが、

１枚の切符を買い間違えてしまいました。

(27)You know, I bought the tickets from York to Whitby

by the official web site of UK NATIONAL RAIL.

ご存知の様に、私は英国鉄道の公式サイトでヨークからウイットビーまでの切符を買いました。

(28)But that way (using only trains) goes the long way.

ところが、その方法（列車だけを使用すること）は遠回りでした。

(29)The fastest way is that we use a train from York to Malton

and use a bus from Malton to Whitby.

一番速い方法はヨークからモルトンまでは列車を使い、

モルトンからウイットビーまではバスを使うことです。

(30)First, we should search them by Google Map with all public transport.

まず、私たちは全ての公共交通機関が載っているグーグルマップで調べるべきだったのです。

(31)We can’t change the train

because our tickets are advance (early birds discount tickets).

私たちの切符はアドバンス（早割の割引切符）なので、列車の変更は出来ないです。

(32)It’s too late for regrets now……but it’s such a small problem.

後の祭りです……が、そんなことは、とてもささいな問題です。

(33)We are going to pay most of the things by debit card,

but we have to pay in cash at one B＆B, small shop and so on.

私達はほとんどの物をデビットカードで支払うつもりですが、

1つのＢ＆Ｂや小さなお店、その他では、現金で払わなければなりません。

(34)So we exchanged yen into pound at Kanazawa Central Post Office

and Travelex inside Kanazawa Station.

それで私たちは金沢中央郵便局と金沢駅構内のトラベレックスで円からポンドに両替しました。

(35)Travelex had 20 pound bills and 5 pound bills,

but they didn’t have 10 pound bills.

トラベレックスは２０ポンド札と５ポンド札を持っていましたが、１０ポンド札がなかったのです。

(36)Next we had travel insurance on line.

次に私たちはインターネットで海外旅行保険に加入しました。

(37)I can't visit the UK every day, so I’d like to eat something local,

but I sometimes want to eat Japanese food.

折角だから、私は土地のものが食べたいのですが、時には日本食も食べたいのです。

(38)I went shopping at the super market to buy instant miso soup, retort rice, snack and so on.

私はスーパーでインスタントの味噌汁や、レトルトご飯、お菓子などを買い物しました。

(39)My second daughter in the UK said,

“Please bring Japanese food here as much as you can.

And if they will be left, give me all the food.”

私のイギリスにいる次女は「出来るだけたくさんの日本食を持ってきて、

もし残ったら全部ちょうだいね。」と言いました。

(40)She misses Japanese taste after all.

やはり日本の味が恋しいんですね。

私はこの文章をShe misses Japanese food.と訳したのですが

先生から”日本の味”という表現の方が

ふさわしいと教えてもらいました

そうですね。食べ物というより”味が恋しい”んですよね

(41)We don’t have a pet and potted plants,

so we don’t need to worry about them.

私たちはペットを飼っていないし、鉢植えの植物もありませんから、それらの心配をする必要はありません。

(42)Daughter couple had a snake in Japan,

but they couldn't bring it to the uk,

so now her sister's friend is looking after it.

娘夫婦は日本でへびを飼っていましたが、イギリスに連れてこられませんでした、

それで今は妹の友達が世話してくれています。

(43)Anyway, Hotels.com has a rule that if we don’t arrive

at the hotel by midnight, it will be canceled.

ところで、ホテルズドットコムには、もし私たちが午前0時までに到着しなければ、

キャンセルされてしまうという規定があります。

(44)We are going to arrive at the Hotel before 8:00 p.m.,

but the airplane might be delayed.

私たちは午後８時までに到着する予定ですが、飛行機が遅れるかもしれません。

●先生のワンポイントレッスンです。

　　　　私は最初、until 8:00と訳しましたが、先生によると、untilという言葉は継続して

　　　　いるものに対して使う言葉なので、この場合はbeforeを使うべきだということでした。

　　　　beforeはいつになるかわからないけれど、8時までにはというイメージです。

　　　　byを使ってもいいけれど、その場合はほとんど8時に近いという時に使うそうです。

　　　　動詞（この場合はarrive)に合う前置詞を使いましょうとのことでした。

　　　　例えば、

　　　　I waited for you until seven o'click.（私はあなたを7時まで待ちました。）

　　　　待つ行為は継続しているのでuntilです

　　　　You have to return this book by 7 o'clock.（7時までにこの本を返却して下さい）

　　　　返す行為は継続ではないのでbyです

　　　　なるほど、これまでこれらの言葉の使い分けが混乱していましたが、今、はっきりわかりました。

　　　　I got it now !

　　　　私達の先生の教え方は本当にわかりやすいです。

(45)I am worried about it a little, but I'm sure it will be OK.

私はそのことが少し心配ですが、きっと大丈夫だと思います。

(46)I asked Collection and Delivery Post Office to stop mail for 2 weeks.

私は集配郵便局に２週間、郵便を止めてほしいと頼みました。

郵便局には大きく分けて３つあります

Central Post Office（中央郵便局）

Collection and Delivery Postoffice（集配郵便局）

　Special Post Office（特定郵便局）

(47)And finally I wrote necessary information on the small notebook.

そして最後に私は小さな手帳に必要事項を書きました。

(48)For example, passport number, fright number and seat number,

insurance number, card number, telephone number(hotel, my family,

embassy of Japan, Hotel.com,

insurance hot line, debit card hot line) , Itinerary and so on.

例えば、パスポート番号、飛行機のフライト番号と座席番号、

保険の番号、カードの番号、電話番号（ホテル、家族、日本大使館、ホテルドットコム、

保険会社の緊急電話、カード会社の緊急電話）、旅の予定表などです。

(49)I prepared most things except 2 things.

私は２つのことを除いて、ほとんど準備をしました。

(50)The day before departure date,

I have to ask a newspaper shop to stop the newspaper for 2 weeks,

and ask our next door neighbor to turn the circular notice except our house

私は出発日の前日に、新聞屋さんに２週間、新聞を止めることを頼み、

隣の家に私達の家をとばして、回覧板を回してくれるように頼まなければなりません。

(51)Ah………I’d like to go on a trip without plan like Futen-no-Torasan.

ああ……フーテンの寅さんの様に、ふらっと旅に出たいものです。

starring Mr. Kiyoshi Atsumi as "Futen no Tora-san".

(53)Well, I’m going to go on a trip starting on Sunday. See you again in 3 weeks.
