【階段の踊り場に傘を忘れた】～60歳からのイギリス旅～

(1)I made a plan to go to Museum of London, St.Paul's Cathedral

and Old Operation Theater Museum on that day,

but my husband chose taking a stroll around the neighborhood.

その日、私はロンドン博物館とセントポール大聖堂と旧手術室博物館に行く予

を立てていましたが、夫は近所をのんびりと散策することを選びました。

cathedral （カスィードラル）　大聖堂

chose（チョーズ）はchoose（チューズ）の過去形

strollはのんびりと景色などを楽しむ散策というニュアンスがある

walkとちょっと違う

(2)I got used to taking tube(subway), so walking alone was no problem,

but it was a pity that Old Operation Theater must be interesting.

私は地下鉄に乗るのに慣れましたから、１人歩きは問題ありませんでしたが、

旧手術室博物館はおもしろいに違いないので、残念でした。

(3)I took a tube on Piccadilly Line from Earl's Court station to Holborn station

and transfered at Holborn station to the Central Line

and got off at St.Paul's station.

私はアールズコートからホルボーンまで地下鉄ピカデリー線に乗り、

ホルボーンでセントラル線に乗り換えて、セントポールズ駅で降りました。

"Way out " means exit in the uk.

ウエイアウトはイギリスでは、出口を意味します。

(4)I used my favorite compass which way to go in front of the station.

私は駅の前で、どっちの方向に行けばいいのか愛用のコンパスを使いました。

(5)I found the Museum of London soon.

ロンドン博物館はすぐに見つかりました。

(6)British Museum is very famous,

but London Museum is little known by tourists.

大英博物館はとても有名ですが、ロンドン博物館は観光客にあまり知られていません。

ロンドン博物館では、１６６５年の「ロンドンのペスト大流行」と

１６６６年の「ロンドンの大火」の展示が興味深かったです。

"The Great Fire of London" happened in 1666.

ペスト大流行の翌年の１６６６年に”ロンドン大火”は起こりました。

(25)The fire started in the stove of bakery and spread rapidly

then over 80 % of London was burned for 5 days.

パン屋のかまどを火元にあっという間に燃え広がり、５日間にわたって

ロンドンの８０％以上を焼き尽くしました。

(26)The main causes were that almost all (or most) houses

were made of wood and streets were narrow and air was dry.

その主な原因は、ほとんどの家が木造で、道が狭かったことと、

空気が乾燥していたことでした。

the fire calmed down by the firebreak on the 4th day,

and the fire was put out completely on the 5th day.

３日目の夜、風はやっと収まり、４日目には防火帯によって火の勢いは弱まり

５日目に完全に鎮火しました。

(35)The video about Black Death was showing there.

黒死病（ペスト）のビデオがそこで上映されていました。

(48)Next I went up the stairs with 118 steps(23meters)

to the second point "Stone Gallery".

次に私は第２ポイントの「石の回廊」まで１１８段の階段（２３メートル）を上りました。

(49)Then I went up the very narrow srairs with 153 steps (30 meters)

to the third point "Golden Gallery" while saying "Hu～Hu～”.

それから第３ポイントの「金の回廊」まで、とても狭い１５３段の階段（３０メートル）を

フーフー言いながら上りました。

(50)Please compare 257 steps (30 meters) with 153 steps (30 meters).

３０メートルで２５７段の階段と、同じく３０メートルで１５３段の階段を比べてみて下さい。

　　　　realise （頭）　今まで気づいていなかった何かに気づいたり、

　　　　　　　　　　　　　事の重要性を認識した時などの気づくです。

　　　　notice（五感）　見たり聞いたり臭ったりという五感で感じる気づくです。

　　　　　Did you get a haircut?（髪切った？）　　　

　　　　Yes, thank you for noticing.（ええ、気づいてくれてありがとう。）

(56)I was in trouble because the stairs between the second point

and third point was one-way.

私は困ってしまいました。　第２ポイントから第３ポイントまでは一方通行だったからです。

(57)I asked the staff, "Excuse me. 　

I left my umbrella on the middle floor of the stairs.

What should I do?"

私はスタッフにたずねました

「すみません。階段の踊り場に傘を忘れてきました。どうしたらいいでしょうか？」

● ～を忘れる　

　　　　忘れる　はforget　で表すことが多いが、

　　　　その忘れ物について何をどこに置き忘れたのか、

　　　　「忘れた物＋場所」を示す時は　leaveを使う。　

　　　　例えば、「鍵を忘れた」なら、「I forgot my key」でよいが、

　　　　「家に鍵を忘れた」ならば、「I left my key at home」となる。

(58)He said, "Please, get it."

彼は「どうぞ、取ってきて下さい。」と言いました。

(59)I told him,　"But the stairs is one-way and narrow……."

私は彼に言いました、「でもその階段は一方通行だし、狭いし……。」

(60)He told me, "I know, I know. 　That's OK.

"This is one-way stairs, isn't it ?."

So, I went down the stairs while saying

"Excuse me. 　I left my umbrella ."

私は下から上ってくる人々の「ここは一方通行の階段でしょう？」という視線を感じました。

それで私は「すみません。傘を忘れたんです。」と言いながら、階段を下りました。

(64)I found my umbrella, but I was all in a sweat.

私は傘を見つけましたが、汗びっしょりになりました。

(65)I have to ask myself,"Do you have everything ?"

私は自分に「忘れ物はないですか？」と聞かなくてはなりませんね。

(70)Anyway, I think it was good to go to magnificent

and gorgeous St.Paul's Cathedral.

とにかく、荘厳できらびやかなセントポール大聖堂に行ったのはよかったと思います。

(71)But I prefer Japanese Zen temple to gorgeous Christian church,

especially I love Daijozi Temple in Kanazawa.

でも私は豪華なキリスト教会よりも、日本の禅寺の方が好きです、

特に金沢の大乗寺が好きです。

(72)I love simple beauty surrounded by nature.

私は自然に囲まれた簡素な美しさが好きです。
