●AをBと間違える　　　　　mistake A for B
私は先々月、”ルート”のつづりを”根っこ”のつづりと間違えました。
Just the thought of it makes me laugh, 　　but I think that I won't make mistakes from now on.
それを思い出すたびに笑ってしまいますが、今度からは間違えないと思います。

It was heavy because of lots of ads on Sundays.
日曜版は広告が多いので、重かったです。
Sunday's paper is very big.
日曜の新聞はとても大きいんですよ。
Actually, Sunday newspaper was the thing 　　that I wanted to buy the most in Sri Lanka.
実は私がスリランカで一番買いたかったものは日曜日の新聞でした。
Why ?
どうしてですか？
According to the book about Sri Lanka before the trip, 　　there was "Marriage Proposals on Sunday newspapers, 　　so I had been looking forward to read them.
旅行前に読んだスリランカについての本によると、 　　日曜日の新聞には結婚相手募集広告が載っているというので、 　　私はそれらを読むのを楽しみにしていました。
Hahaha.
ははは。
Of course, I couldn't read Sinhalese, 　　so I bought it in English.
もちろんシンハラ語は読めないので、英語版を買いました。
	It's all greek to me. チンプンカンプンです。
I picked out a few proposals from them it.
●日本語のピックアップは和製英語 　　　　英語では　pick out　といい、ピックアップするという意味では使われないので注意 　英語の　pick up　の意味　　　持ち上げる、拾う、迎えに行く
その中からいくつか選んでみました。
Example-1 　　Our daughter is a 28 year old banker. 　　She has a good personality. 　　We are Buddhists. 　　We are looking for a partner who doesn't drink, 　　　　under 33 　　　　and taller than our daughter who is 160 cm tall.
例その１ 　　私たちの娘は２８歳の銀行員です。 　　娘は素晴らしい性格です。 　　私たちは仏教徒です。 　　飲酒しないパートナーで、３３歳以下の、 　　　　娘の身長の１６０ｃｍよりも背が高い方を探しています。
Example-2 　　Our daughter is a 42 year old widow without children. 　　We are Buddhists. 　　She is looking for a partner under 46. 　　However except Muslim and Tamil(Hindu). 　　She is 153cm tall.
例その２ 　　私たちの娘は４２歳の子どものいない未亡人です。 　　私たちは仏教徒です。 　　娘は４６歳以下のパートナーを探しています。 　　但し、イスラム教徒とタミール人（ヒンズー教徒）は除きます。 　　娘の身長は１５３ｃｍです。
Example-3 　　Our daughter is 27 years old. 　　She is 158 cm tall. 　　She was educated at a Christian school. 　　She is looking for a businessman 　　　　with a serious personality.
例その３ 　　私たちの娘は２７歳です。 　　身長は１５８ｃｍで、クリスチャンスクールで教育を受けました。 　　娘はまじめな性格のビジネスマンを探しています。
"With serious personality" is very funny.
”まじめな性格の”がとても滑稽ですね。
Example-4 　　Our daughter is 36 years old, and her hight is 162cm. 　　She was has a high level educated education in the UK. 　　And now she is working 　　　at the International Association in Colombo. 　　We are Buddhists from Kandy. 　　She is looking for a well-mannered partner. 　　We are looking forward to your reply with horoscope.
例その４ 　　私たちの娘は３６歳で、身長は１６２ｃｍです。 　　娘はイギリスで高い教育を受けました。 　　そして今はコロンボのインターナショナル協会で働いています。 　　私たちは仏教徒で、キャンディー出身です。 　　娘は行儀正しいパートナーを探しています。 　　星占いを添えたお返事をお待ちしております。
Horoscope ……very Sri Lankan.
星占い……とてもスリランカらしい。
Example-5 　　Our son is 34 years old. 　　He has a strong sense of justice. 　　He is 175 cm tall. 　　He works as an executive of 　　　the famous hospital in Colombo. 　　We are Buddhists, 　　　so we hope a cute Buddhist woman. 　　We are looking forward to your reply with horoscope, 　　　　family details and contact address.
●正義感　　　sense of justice
例その５ 　　私たちの息子は３４歳で、正義感にあふれています。 　　身長は１７５ｃｍです。 　　息子はコロンボで有名な病院の重役として働いています。 　　私たちは仏教徒ですから、仏教徒のかわいい娘さんがほしいと思っています。 　　星占いと家族の詳細と連絡先を添えてお返事を下さい。

例その６ 　　私たちの息子は、３６歳の銀行マンです。 　　身長は１７５ｃｍです。 　　離婚歴があります。 　　私たちはイスラム教徒です。 　　私たちはコロンボ出身の尊敬できる家族を持つ娘さんを探しています。
Example-7 　　I'm looking for a partner of for my sister. 　　She has been divorced. 　　She is 55 years old, but she looks very young and cute. 　　We are looking forward to your reply with horoscope. It's funny, isn't it ?
例その７ 　　私は妹のパートナーを探しています。 　　妹は離婚歴があります。 　　彼女は５５歳ですが、とても若く見えてかわいいです。 　　星占いを添えて連絡をお待ちしています。 これ面白いですよね？

This colour (purple) is unusual, 　　normally white or off white dress.
●三種類の白色 　　　pure white　　純白 　　　off white　　　白に近いが白でない、アイボリーよりも純白に近い白色で 　　　　　　　　　　　　　わずかにグレー味がかった色 　　　　　　　　　　　　　黄色人種の日本人に最もよく似合う色らしい 　　　ivory　　　　　　アイボリー（象牙色）、象牙のような黄色っぽい白色
この色（紫色）は普通じゃないですね、 　　通常は純白かオフホワイトのドレスですよ。

In Sri Lanka, horoscope is important to for marriage, 　　isn't it ?
スリランカでは、星占いは結婚にとって大切なんですよね？
After to verb. Marriage is noun, so for marriage.
toの後には動詞が来ます。 マリッジは名詞ですから　for　ですね。
I see.
わかりました。
Oh, yes. Young generation don't really believe in horoscope, 　　but my mom cares.
はいそうですね。 若い世代は本当には星占いを信じていませんが、私の母は気にしますね。
Because this year I'll be married too, 　　so she actually did check the horoscope of my girlfriend.
●結婚する　　という表現について 　　　名詞　　　marriage（結婚） 　　　動詞　　　marry（結婚する）　 　　　　　marry　の直後に結婚する相手の名前（名詞）が来る。with　のような前置詞は要らない。 　　　　　　　　つい「with」を使いそうになるが、「with」と言ってしまうと 　　　　　　　　「スーザンの手引きで結婚できた」という感じになります。 　　　　　I will marry Susan next month.　来月スーザンと結婚します。 　　　　　Will you marry me ?　結婚してくれますか？（プロポーズのお決まりのセリフ） 　　　形容詞　married （結婚しているという状態を表す） 　　　　　be married 　という形で使われるのでややこしい。 　　　　　一見、動詞のmarry　が受身形になっているように見えるが、あくまで形容詞なので注意 　　　　　　　　I will be married. 　私はもうすぐ結婚します。 　　　　　　　　I am married.　　私は結婚しています。 　　　　　　　　I was married.　　私は結婚していました。（現在は離婚または死別） 　　　　　　　　I have been married for 50 years..　私は結婚して５０年です。 　　　　　　get married 　　形容詞のmarried　の前にget　を置くことで、 　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　結婚するという意味になる。 　　　　　　　　　　結婚している状態を手に入れる　　というようなニュアンス 　　　　　　　I got married to him yesterday.　私は昨日、彼と結婚しました。
なぜならば、今年私はもうすぐ結婚しますから、 　　母は私の恋人の星占いを実際にチェックしました。

I think it's fifty-fifty.
●fifty-fifty　という言い方について 　　　Let's go fifty-fifty.　半々でいこう。割り勘にしよう。二等分しよう。 　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　半分ずつ共有しよう。５０％ずつ出しましょう。 　　　　　お金を半分ずつ出しあう・利益を半分ずつに分ける・食べ物を二等分する・ 　　　　　仕事を半分ずつ分担する　というようないろいろな場面で使えるオールマイティーな表現。 　　　He and I share the living experience fifty-fifty. 　　　　　彼と私は生活費を半分ずつ出しあっています。 　　　My husband and I share housework fifty-fifty. 　　　　　夫と私は家事を半分ずつ分担しています。 　　　Do you think you can pass the exam ? 　　　　　試験受かると思う？ 　　　Fifty-fifty. 　　　　　半々だね。
半々だと思います。
Family in Sri Lanka used to check horoscope, 　　especially Buddhists check the horoscope.
●used to　〜　（助動詞なので後ろには動詞の原形がくる） 　　　　　　かつて〜したものだ。昔は〜した。 　　　　　　過去の習慣や状態を表す言葉で、「今はそうではない」ことを臭わせている。
スリランカの家族はかつては星占いをチェックしたものです、 　　特に仏教徒は星占いをチェックします。
But I think fortune telling (including horoscope) is 　　prohibited Christianity, Islam and Buddhism.
でも占い（星占いを含む）はキリスト教やイスラム教、そして仏教で 　　禁止されていると思うのですが。
My mom told me just before dying of cancer. 　　"Actually, I had my crush before the marriage. 　　Then, my mom(grandma of me) had 　　　　my fortune told by the fortune teller. 　　The fortune teller said, "The star of your daughter 　　　　doesn't much match the star of the man. 　　So I got married to your father in 　　　　an arranged marriage."

In Sri Lanka, men prefer younger woman than themselves.

For example, I'm Catholic and my girlfriend is Buddhist, 　　I was thinking of going to Sri Lanka to get married, 　　but my mom told me, I cannot have a full mass. Do you know mass ?
●ミサ　　　ラテン語　missa　　英語　mass 　　　　日本のカトリック教徒の儀式書には 　　　　　　　「ミサによる結婚式」と「言葉の祭儀による結婚式」の二つがあり、 　　　　　　　カトリック信者動詞の結婚式はミサによる結婚式となる。
例えば、私はカトリックで私のガールフレンドは仏教徒です、 　　私はスリランカに行って結婚しようと考えていましたが、 　　ミサによる結婚式ができないと母は言いました。 massを知っていますか？

If one of the couple is not Catholic, 　　you will have a shorter half mass, not full mass.
もしカップルの一人がカトリックでないとすると、 　　完全なミサによる式ではなく、短い半分のミサをします。
It might be a rude question. There are class system in India, how about in Sri Lanka ?
もしかしたら失礼な質問かもしれないのですが。 インドでは階級制度がありますが、スリランカではどうですか？
They don't have a hierarchy like India, 　　but Sri Lanka has a bad history of biolence violence 　　inside of the country.
●ハイラーキー　　　階級制のこと。主にピラミッド型の組織構造のことをさす。 　　　日本ではドイツ語のヒエラルキーが浸透している
インドの様に階級制度はありませんが、 　　スリランカは国の内部で暴力の歴史があります。
In Japan, we say "hieraruki-"in the German pronunciation.
日本では私たちはドイツ語読みで「ヒエラルキー」と言います。
Older generation in Sri Lanka have a bias 　　towards religion and race.
スリランカの古い世代は宗教や人種に対して差別意識を持っています。
If you are tamil, Muslim, 　　maybe you would be looked down upon 　　by 40 %, not everyone of course.
もしあなたがタミル人やイスラム教徒だとしたら、 　　４０％の人には見下されて軽蔑されるでしょうね、 　　もちろん全ての人からではありません。
I don't think it's as bad as India.

I think it's better with the younger generation, 　　but they do have discrimination. Do you know discrimination ?

February 3rd is the day of Setsubun, 　　Beans-Throwing Celemony Ceremony.
２月３日は節分、豆まき行事の日です。
Setsubun means the ending of winter 　　and the beginning of spring.
節分は冬が終わって春が始まることを意味します。
People throw beans inside of house 　　to drive away evil and bring in good luck 　　 while shouting 　　"Devils out !　Happiness in !" 　　"Oniwa〜soto ! , Fukuwa〜uchi !"in Japanese.
人々は邪気を祓い、福を招くために、 　　「鬼は〜外！　福は〜内」と叫びながら豆を投げます。
Then, I cook beans rice with the beans.
そしてその豆で豆ご飯を作って食べます。
	I cooked this beans rice. 私はこの豆ご飯を料理しました。

This year, our family did Beans-throwing.

I took some photos, 　　my son-in-law(third daughter's husband) 　　threw the beans wearing Kimono, 　　my daughter and husband wore 　　the masks of demon.
私は写真を撮って、義理の息子（三女の夫）は着物を着て豆をまき、 　　娘と夫は鬼のお面をかぶりました。
And my grandchild (0 years old) 　　just looked at Beans-throwing with a mysterious face..

I made them about 15 years ago.  I have used those masks every year.

There are some evil in our body, 　　for example, lazy heart, angry heart and so on.

That's right ! I was surprised to know Ehoumaki.

Because I used to work in Sushiro, 　　Ehoumaki is very popular during February.
私はかつてスシローで働いていて、２月中は恵方巻きが人気だったので 　　知っているんです。
Ehoumaki is expensive in super market, 　　I made them by myself.
恵方巻きはスーパーで高いし、私は自分で作りました。

はいはいはい、ディレクション方角です！
Good direction called "Ehou"in this year is 　　north-north-west.
今年の恵方（いい方角）は北北西です。
I made 7 kinds of Ehoumaki sushi rolls.
私は７種類の恵方巻きを作りました。
1- cucumber and wasabi 2- pickled vegetable 3- canned tuna, cucumber and mayonnaise 4- raw tuna and wasabi 5- pickled plum and Japanese herb "shiso" and so on.
１　きゅうりとわさび ２　漬物 ３　缶詰のツナときゅうりとマヨネーズ ４　生のマグロ刺身とわさび ５　梅干しと日本のハーブの青じそ などです。
These are sweet potatos with green tea. これは抹茶入りのスィートポテトです。	This is called "Fuku-chｙa" in Japanese. これは日本語で「福茶」と 呼ばれているお茶です。
Fuku-chya……Is this something inside ?
福茶……中に何か入っていますか？
Umeboshi(Japanese pickled plum),roasted soybeans 　　and salty konbu(dried seaweed).
梅干と炒り豆と塩昆布が入っています。
Konbu is lucky food, be happy……"Yorokobu"
昆布（こんぶ）はおめでたい食品で、喜ぶ（よろこぶ）に通じます。
Red colour of umrboshi is lucky colour.
梅干しの赤色はおめでたい色です。
