After visiting my driver's house, 　　I arrived at Galle Face Hotel 　　 in Colombo at 6 o'clock.
ドライバーの家を訪問した後、 　　午後６時にコロンボのホテル　ゴールフェイスに到着しました。
Galle Face Hotel is a high class hotel in Colombo. It was build in 1864 at in British colonial era.
ゴールフェイスはコロンボの高級ホテルです。 このホテルはイギリス植民地時代の１８６４年に作られました。
Inside looks very Sri Lankan.
中はスリランカらしいですね。
After the check in, 　　a porter carried my baggage, 　　and a woman with saree came there, too, 　　so I asked her 　　how to make an international call from my room.
チェックインの後、ポーターが荷物を運んでくれましたが、 　　サリーを着た女性も一緒に来たので、 　　彼女に私の部屋からの国際電話のかけ方をたずねました。
This is a twin size room ? What a small.
ここはツインルームですか？ 小さいですね。
Then, she told me, 　　"You can't make an international call directly."
すると、彼女は「直通で国際電話をかけることはできません。」と言いました。
International call is noun.
●電話をかける　　　make a phone call. 　国際電話をかける　　make an international call.
「国際電話」は名詞ですから。
Meishi (noun).
名詞ですね。
So I said to her, 　　"Well then, how to make an international call ? 　　I want to try it now."
それで、私は彼女に言いました、 　　「じゃあどうやって国際電話をかけるんですか？ 　　今、私は試してみたいです。」
Then, she called the telephone operator and told me, 　　"He is eating right now, 　　so you can make an international call in 30 minutes."
すると彼女は電話係りに電話をしてから、私に言いました。 　　「電話係りは今、食事中なので、３０分後に 　　あなたは国際電話が出来ます。」
Mwahahaha……

I was in trouble because I was alone after 30 minutes, 　　then she called someone and told me, 　　"I'm sorry, you can call directly from here."
３０分後には私一人になるので、困ったなと思っていたら、 　　彼女はまたどこかに電話をしてから、私に言いました。 　　「ああ、ごめんなさい。直通でここから電話ができます。」
First, she didn't know 　　that I did it directly from my room. Why didn't the fancy hotel staff member 　　know such a thing ? Why on earth did she come to my room on purpose ?
最初、彼女は部屋から直通で国際電話ができることを知りませんでした。 一流ホテルのスタッフがどうしてそんなことも知らないのでしょうか？ 一体全体、何のために彼女はわざわざ私の部屋まで来たんでしょうか？
The bathroom was with a big bathtub, 　　so I was happy as a Japanese. Besides, there was a bathrobe 　　that the other hotel didn't have.
お風呂は大きなバスタブつきだったので、日本人の私にとって 　　うれしかったです。 また、これまでのホテルにはなかった、バスローブもありました。
Some photos of famous people who stayed in the hotel 　　hanged hung on the wall of the corridor. For example, former US President Nixon, 　　"Gone with the Wind" Vivian Leigh, 　　former Indian Prime Minister Nehru, 　　and to my surprise, Cuban Che Guevara.

ホテルの廊下の壁には、このホテルに宿泊した有名人の写真が 　　かけられていました。 例えば、元アメリカ大統領のニクソンや、「風と共に去りぬ」のビビアンリー、 　　元インド首相のネルー、そして驚いたことに、キューバのチェ・ゲバラの 　　写真もありました。
I didn't know that the past tense of hang 　　was hung, irregular verb. Thank you for the advice, sensei.
私はhangの過去形がhung、不規則動詞だと知りませんでした。 どうもありがとうございました、先生。

Next morning, I had a buffet style breakfast. Fried Maitake mushrooms 　　and boiled potatoes were tasty, 　　but Dhal curry in Negambo was 　　more tasty tastier after all.

次の朝、バイキング形式の朝食を食べました。 マイタケの炒め物やボイルドポテトが美味しかったですが、 　　お豆のカレーはやっぱりニゴンボのホテルの方が美味しかったです。
	Dhar curry
After the breakfast,when I went out of the hotel, 　　there was the Indian Ocean just behind the hotel. I was so happy to see my dreaming of the Indian Ocean.
朝食後、外へ出てみたら、ホテルのすぐ後ろはインド洋でした。 憧れのインド洋を見ることができて、私は幸せでした。
In Colombo,public transportation was convenient, 　　so I went sightseeing by train and bus. My driver went home temporarily.
コロンボは交通の便がいいので、私は電車やバスで観光することにしました。 ドライバーは一時的に家に帰りました。
I asked the hotel receptionist, 　　"I'd like to visit Dehiwala Zoo, 　　Could you tell me how to get there 　　with public transportation ?"
私はホテルのフロントの女性に、 　　「デヒワラ動物園に行きたいんですが、 　　公共交通機関での行き方を教えてもらえますか？」とたずねました。
Then, she told me, 　　"You can go there by taxi or tuk tuk."
すると彼女は「それなら、タクシーかトゥクトゥクで行けばいいです。」と言いました。
So I said to her, 　　"I don't care about the amount of money, 　　I'd like to go there myself by train and bus." 　　then she taught me about it kindly.
それで私は彼女に 　　「私は金額を気にしているんじゃなくて、バスや電車を使って、 　　自分で行きたいんです。」と言うと、彼女はていねいに教えてくれました。
I left the hotel at nine o'clock 　　and went to the nearest Compagna Vidiya Station on foot.
私は午前９時にホテルを出発して、 　　最寄りの駅のコンパーニャヴィディヤ駅に歩いて行きました。
Sri Lanka was a construction boom. According to my driver, 　　Chinese company was building 　　many roads and buildings.
スリランカは建設ラッシュでした。 ドライバーによると、中国の会社が多くの道路やビルを作っているそうです。
Yes.
はい、そうです。
When I walked on the road, 　　I found some Buddha statues here and there.
道を歩いていたら、あちこちで仏像を見つけました。
I arrived at Compagna Vidya Station. The name was difficult, so I almost bit my tongue 　　like "Tokyo tokkyo kyokakyoku" 　　Japanese unreal public office. The station signboard was written in with 　　Shinhalese, Tamil and English.
●東京特許許可局は存在せず、早口ことばのために作られた幻の官庁
コンパーニュヴィディヤ駅に到着しました。 この駅の名前は、むずかしくて、舌を噛みそうになりました、 　　日本の実在しない役所の「東京特許許可局」のような。 駅の看板は、シンハラ語、タミール語、そして英語で書かれていました。
Written with pen is Okay.
「ペンで書かれていた」なら、オーケーですよ。
I thought the timetable in analogue style 　　on the blackboard was cool 　　because it was written by hand.
黒板のアナログスタイルの時刻表が、 　　手書きで書かれていたので、かっこいいと思いました。
It was written in Shinhalese, not Tamil nor English.
このボードはシンハラ語だけで書かれてありますよ、 　　タミール語や英語では書かれていませんね。
I bought a train ticket for 10 rupees. "Can I have a ticket to Colombo Fort Station, 　　　the third class, please."
私は電車の切符を１０ルピーで買いました。 　　「コロンボフォート駅までの3等切符を１枚下さい。」
I took the train leaving at 9:55 (five to ten) 　　to Fort Station, passengers were not so full.
私は９時５５分発のフォート駅行きの電車に乗りましたが、 　　お客さんはそんなにいっぱいではありませんでした。
I arrived at Fort Station. Some cloths with pictures of Buddha 　　hanged hung on the entrance of the shop 　　like Japanese Noren. Noren is a traditional Japanese shop short curtain 　　between shops and outside.
コロンボフォート駅に到着しました。 あるお店の入り口には、仏陀の絵が描かれている日本の 　　のれんのような物がかかっていました。 のれんというのは、店と外の間の伝統的な日本の短いカーテンのことです。
Japanese Noren
At Pettah Bus Station, 　　I asked a foreign tourist about the bus stop 　　for the zoo (south direction), but she didn't know. I thought tourists don't go to the zoo, after all.
ペターのバス乗り場で、私は外国人観光客に、 　　動物園行き（南方面）のバス乗り場をききましたが、知りませんでした。 観光客はやっぱり動物園には行かないんだと思いました。
Then, a tuktuk driver came and told me, 　　"Would you like to take a tuktuk, madam ?"
そこにトゥクトゥクドライバーがやって来て私にいいました、 　　「マダム、トゥクトゥクに乗りませんか？」
I said to him, 　　"I want to go to the zoo by bus," 　　then he told me the bus stop kindly. 　　"Only the buses for the zoo are leaving 　　from the front of Fort train Station, 　　not from Pettah bus station."
私が彼に「私はバスで動物園に行きたいんです。」と言ったら、 　　彼は親切に、乗り場を教えてくれました。 　　「動物園行き（南方面）だけは、ベターのバス乗り場からではなく、 　　コロンボフォート駅前から出ています。」
I took the bus leaving 　　at 10:10 (ten past ten) to Dehiwala Junction.
私は１０時１０分発のデヒワラジャンクション行きのバスに乗りました。
To my surprise, 　　there was a picture of Buddha in the bus. It was a place of ad in Japan. I thought to after see that, 　　"Wow, Sri Lanka is Buddhist country."
驚いたことに、バスの中には仏陀の絵がありました。 日本だったら、広告の場所にです。 私はそれを見て、「わあ！スリランカは仏教徒の国だ〜。」と思いました。

In Japan, bus company make money for ad.
日本ではバス会社は広告で儲けます。
The conductor came to my seat, 　　so I told him, 　　"One ticket to Dehiwala Junction, please." 　　then he said, "30 rupees."
車掌さんが私の座席に来たので、私が「デヒワラジャンクションまで 　　切符を１枚下さい。」と言ったら、 　　彼は英語で「３０ルピーです。」と言いました。
So I asked him in English, 　　"Could you tell me 　　when we get to Dehiwala Junction ?" But he made a gesture like no, no, 　　I was in trouble.
それで、私はその車掌さんに英語で頼みました、 　　「デヒワラジャンクションに着いたら、教えてもらえますか？」 すると、彼は「だめだめ」みたいなジェスチャーをしたので私は困りました。
But fortunately, 　　the family sitting in front of my seat 　　was with a child. So I thought they must go to the zoo, 　　I asked the father, "Excuse me, 　　"Could you tell me 　　 　　　when we get to Dehiwara Junction ?" Then, he said,"Okay." with smile. So, I felt relieved to hear that.
でも幸運なことに、私の前の座席に座っている家族は、子ども連れでした。 それで彼らはきっと動物園に行くに違いないと思ったので、 　　お父さんに「すみませんが、デヒワラジャンクションに着いたら、 　　教えて頂けますか？」と頼んでみたら、笑顔で「オーケー」と 　　言われたので、私は安心しました。
Taking a bus is difficult for foreigner.
バスに乗ることは外国人にとってはむずかしいです。
Yes, bus drivers and conductors don't speak English.
はい、バスの運転手や車掌は英語を話しませんからね。
We arrived at Dehiwara Junction at 10:45. I had to change to the bus for Dehiwara Zoo, 　　so I looked around, 　　then the father told me, 　　"Would you like to take a tuktuk with us ?"
１０時４５分にデヒワラジャンクションに着きました。 そこからまた、デヒワラ動物園行きのバスに乗り換えなくてはならなかったので 　　キョロキョロしていたら、さっきのお父さんが私に言いました。 　　「一緒にトゥクトゥクに乗りませんか？」
The tuktuk was a 4-seater, but we got on 5-seater. In other words, 　　we rode the motorcycle with 5 people 　　because tuktuk is motorcycle..
トゥクトゥクは４人乗りですが、５人乗りしました。 つまりトゥクトゥクはバイクなので、バイクに５人も乗ったということになりますね。
Tuktuk capacity is 3 adults except driver ?
トゥクトゥクの定員はドライバーを除いて大人３人ですかね？
Yes.
はい。
In India,cycle rickshaw capacity is 2 adults,right ?
インドでは、リキシャ（自転車の）の定員は大人２人ですよね？
But sometimes big size tuktuk capacity is 4 adults.
でも時々大きなサイズのトゥクトゥクがあって、大人４人が定員です。
I'm off the topic, 　　when I was 8 years old, 60 years ago, 　　we rode a scooter with 4 people.
ちょっと脱線しますが、私は８歳の時に、６０年前ですが、 　　スクーターの４人乗りをしました。

My dad drove, my mom sat in the back seat 　　who carried my brother on her back 　　and I stood in front of my dad. The scene is fresh in my memory.
父が運転して、母は赤ちゃんだった私の弟をおんぶして 　　後ろの座席に乗り、私は父の前に立って乗りました。 その情景は今も記憶に新しいです。
Dangerous.
危ない。
Now, it's a traffic violation, of course.
もちろん今なら、それは違反です。
Let's get back to the topic of Sri Lanka. When I got out of the tuktuk, 　　I said, "I'll pay half the fare." But he told me, "No, thank you." I told him, "It's so kind of you, thank you."
話をスリランカに戻しますね。 トゥクトゥクから降りる時に、私が「お金、半分払います。」と言うと、 　　そのお父さんは「いいえ、いりませんよ。」と言いました。 私は彼に「ご親切にして頂いてありがとうございます。」と言いました。
We arrived at Dehiwara Zoo at 11:00.
１１時にデヒワラ動物園に到着しました。
Wow!　It was crowded.

When you asked from the hotel how to go to the zoo, 　　they gave any bus numbers, no ?
あなたが動物園への生き方をホテルできいた時、 　　バスの番号を教えましたか、教えませんでしたか？
Maybe she taught me the bus number.
多分彼女はバスの番号を私に教えたと思います。
Okay, because it's very easy to go to the zoo 　　from the hotel.
オーケー、ホテルから動物園へ行くのはとても簡単なんですが。
I could take a bus in front of the hotel, 　　but I wanted to ride a train.
ホテル前からバスに乗ることはできましたが、私は電車に乗りたかったんです。
Okay, in Colombo, buses are convenient than trains, 　　because train stations are far away.
わかりました、コロンボではバスは電車よりも便利です、 　　というのは電車の駅はずっと遠いからです。
Outside of Colombo, trains are better, 　　inside of Colombo, buses are more convenient.
コロンボの外では、電車の方がいいですが、コロンボの中では 　　バスの方がずっと便利です。
I saw the Galle Face Hotel from the window of the bus.
私はバスの窓からゴールフェイスホテルを見ました。
If you go to Sri Lanka now, 　　Chinese own that area(around the hotel).
今、もしあなたがスリランカに行ったら、 　　中国人がそのエリア（ゴールフェイスのあたり）を所有していますよ。
They built a new port. It is controled by China for 97 years. Unfortunately, the president sold our country.
中国人は新しい港を建設しました。 ９７年間は中国に支配されます。 残念なことですが、大統領は我々の国を売りました。

My dad drove it, my mom sat on the back seat 　　carrying baby (my brother) on her back 　　and I stood in front of dad.

You could balance yourself on the front of the scooter, 　　no problem, but it's problem for baby.

●person の複数は　通常　people　を使う（意味はどっちも２人以上の人を指す） 　　　persons は　people よりも丁寧で正式な言い方なので、 　　　フォーマル＆オフィシャルな内容や法律について書かれた文書などにのみ使われる 　　　話し言葉では　people　が普通は使われる
ところで、先生は風変わりな人を知っていますか？
I know an eccentric person. We live in the same neighborhood.
私は１人の風変わりな人を知っています。 私たちは近所に住んでいます。
His hobby is memorizing the value of pi. He learns 500 digits of them by heart with puns.
彼の趣味は円周率の値を記憶することです。 彼は語呂合わせで５００桁まで記憶しています。
Puns ?
パンズ？
Puns means goroawase in Japanese. For example, 　　"iikuni(1192) tukuro kamakurabakuhu"→1192.
パンズは日本語で「語呂合わせ」という意味です。 例えば、「いい国作ろう鎌倉幕府」は１１９２年とか。
It's most famous pun in Japan. We Japanese memorize historical numbers 　　by similar-sounding words.
これは日本で最も有名な語呂合わせです。 私たち日本人は似たような響きのある言葉によって、 　　歴史的な数字を覚えます。
Most famous. Interesting.
一番有名なんですね。おもしろいですね。
I don't wanna memorize them definitely, 　　how about you ?
私は絶対に記憶したくありませんが、先生はどうですか？

I do like numbers, I like patterns, 　　so recently I'm teaching math 　　to junior high school kids.
私は数字が好きで、パターンが好きなので、 　　最近、中学生の子どもたちに数学を教えています。
It's normal. I like Pokemon cards, they like numbers, the same.

I think memorizing English words is good, 　　but doing value of pi is no meaning, nonsense.

In Sri Lanka, when I was younger,it's a big problem, 　　people was killing turtles to drink turtle's blood.
スリランカでは、私がもっと若い時、問題のあることですが、 　　人々は亀の血を飲むために亀を殺していました。
