毎年８月になると、私は楽しかったスリランカ旅行を思い出します。
Last lesson, 　　when you taught me the difference 　　between employ and hire, 　　the scales fell from my eyes. Thanks to you, I understood about it.

スパイスガーデンを見学した後、私はキャンディ市に行きました。
The last capital of the Sinhalese dynasty Kandy is 　　 the second biggest city after Colombo, 　　the whole town is a World Heritage.

The famous Esala Perahera Festival is held for 10 days.
有名なペラヘラ祭りは１０日間にわたって開催されます。
The Perahera in 2014 when I visited Sri Lanka, 　　was held from August 1st to 10th, 　　the last day 10th was a Full moon Poyaday.
私がスリランカに行った２０１４年のペラヘラ祭りは 　　８月１日〜１０日で、最後の１０日が満月のポヤデーでした。
Bon Festival in Japan and Perahera Festival 　　in Sri Lanka- I wonder why they are held at in the same period. There are common things in Sri Lanka and Japan.
日本のお盆とスリランカのペラヘラ祭り。 それらが同じ時期にあるのがなぜなのか不思議です。 スリランカと日本は共通点がありますね。
People say, 　　"The tooth of Buddha was in India from the beginning, 　　but the castle of a the king who had it, was attacked, 　　so his queen hid it in her hair 　　and took it to Sri Lanka."
「釈迦の歯は元々はインドにありましたが、 　　それを持っていた王の城が攻められたので 　　王妃が髪の毛の中に、その歯を隠して、 　　スリランカに持って行った」と言われています。
In the Perahera Festival, 　　special elephant "Raja" with Buddha's tooth 　　and 100 elephants walk around Kandy.
ペラヘラ祭りでは、仏歯を載せた特別の象”ラジャ”と１００頭の象が 　　キャンディの町を練り歩きます。
It is believed 　　that Buddha's tooth has a the power to bring rain.
仏歯には、雨をもたらす力があると信じられています。
Strange to say, 　 it was raining in Kandy that day.
不思議なことに、その日キャンディに雨が降りました。
I stayed at the hotel on the hill for 3 nights in Kandy.
キャンディでは丘の上のホテルに３泊しました。
It was nice that I looked down at the city 　　from the hotel windows, 　　for example, Kandy Station, some trains, 　　beautiful mountains, people's houses and so on.
その丘の上のホテルは、下のキャンディの街並み、 　　例えばキャンディ駅や走っている電車、美しい山々、 　　人々の家などが見下ろせて、とても素晴らしかったです。
	"Reware of monkeys Please keep balcony doors closed" 「猿にご注意 バルコニーのドアーは閉めておいて下さい」 But I opened them. でも私は窓を開けていました。
Oh, in German, too, for German tourists.
これはドイツ人観光客のために、ドイツ語でも書かれていますね。
There were water tanks on the roof in most houses. ほとんどの家に屋根の上に 水タンクがありました。
This room is pretty spacious.
この部屋はかなり広いですね。

スペイシャス？
Spacious means big area.
スペイシャスというのは大きな空間という意味です。
Because I was going to stay with my husband, 　　but he canceled it just before the trip 　　for the dental treatment.
私は夫と泊るつもりでしたが、旅行の直前に 　　彼は歯の治療のためにキャンセルしたからですよ。

Was the bed comfortable ? It looks hard.

Ya, it's very common in Sri Lanka.

In Japan, everythings are underground, 　　but in Sri Lanka they are not underground.
日本ではいろんなものが地下にありますが、スリランカでは 　　地下にありません。
So water system is outside.
だから水道のシステムは屋外にあるんです。
It's very different from Japan.
日本とはかなり違います。
Japan is convenient, but Sri Lanka is problematic.
日本は便利ですが、スリランカは問題があります。

By the way, only the Hotel Hill Top 　　didn't have free plastic bottled water.
ところでこのホテルヒルトップだけが無料の 　　ペットボトルの水が置いてありませんでした。
Instead of bottled water, 　　there was a water bottle with boiled and cold water.
ペットボトルのかわりに、湯冷ましが 　　入っている水筒が置いてありました。

I thought the Hotel Hill Top was eco-friendly.

There were famous Lion Beers (440 rupees each) 　　and Ginger Beers(160 rupees each) in the fridge.
冷蔵庫の中には、有名なライオンビール（１本４４０ルピー）と 　　ジンジャービール（１本１６０ルピー）が入れてありました。

Ya, hotel price.

I didn't drink either, 　　I drank the boiled and cold water in the water bottle, 　　do you know why ?

Because I can't hundle handle alcohol.

１００年以上も前から飲まれている伝統的国民炭酸飲料の 　　ジンジャービールを飲まなかったことを私は強く後悔しています。

Tuk tuk driver Azis who was a friend of my driver, 　　picked us up at my hotel at 6 o'clock in the evening.
夕方の６時にドライバーの友達のトゥクトゥクドライバーの 　　アジスさんが私のホテルまで迎えに来てくれました。

Ya, it was exciting.

When the Perahera Festival was held, 　　cars were closed by traffic control at night in Kandy, 　　but tuk tuk was small, so it's okay.
ペラヘラ祭りが開かれていた時には、キャンディの町では 　　車は通行止めになりましたが、トゥクトゥクは小さいので走れました。

Surprising. Because in Japan, when people go to onsen(hot spring). 　　they are naked, 　　but in Sri Lanka, people are very shy.
驚きでした。 なぜなら、日本では人々は温泉に行ったら、すっ裸になりますが、 　　スリランカの人々はとても恥ずかしがりますから。
Besides, on the street !
しかも道路上で！
Ya ya, on the street, it's illegal.
はいはい、道路上でね、違法ですよ。
A man with ring of fire walked on high stilts, 　　I ran scared.
●冷や冷やする、ビクビクする（失敗したらどうしようという気持ちがよぎる） 　　　　run scared
火の輪を持った人が、高〜い竹馬で歩いていましたが、私は冷や冷やしました。
I saw a middle-aged man 　　dancing wonderful kandian dance.
私は素晴らしいキャンディアンダンスを踊っていた一人の中年男性を見ました。
It left a big impression on me.
●印象に残る　　leave a big impression on me
その素晴らしいダンスはとても印象に残りました。
I returned to the hotel at midnight.
ホテルに戻ったのは、夜中の１２時でした。
The town below was lively until a half past 1 a.m, 　　but it became quiet suddenly.
夜中の１時半過ぎまで、下の町は賑やかでしたが、 　　その後はピタッと静かになりました。
On the second day morning in Kandy(August 9th) 　　I woke up by the Puja as usual.
キャンディ２日目（８月９日）の朝、私はいつもの様にプージャで目が覚めました。
I had a breakfast in the hotel restaurant.
ホテルのレストランで朝食をとりました。
I remembered some simple Sinhalese in Japan, 　　so I told waiters in Sinhalese, 　　"Please give me a cup of tea with milk."
私は日本で簡単なシンハラ語だけ覚えていったので、 　　ウェイターさんに「”キリティーエカックデンナー” 　　ミルクティーを１杯下さい。」とシンハラ語で言いました。
I was a little lonely for the solo trip, 　　thanks to them I was happy 　　because they remembered my name 　　and talked to me friendly.
私は一人旅だったので、ちょっと淋しかったのですが、 　　彼らは私の名前も覚えてくれて、親しく話してくれて、 　　彼らのおかげで私は楽しかったです。
I had wanted to try a Jackfruit 　　called waraka in Sinhalese, 　　but it was very big (height is 60cm, weight is 30kg), 　　so I couldn't buy it at fruits shop.
私はジャックフルーツという果物を食べてみたかったのですが、 　　とても大きい（長さが６０ｃｍ、重さが３０�s）ので、 　　果物屋さんで買うことはできませんでした。
Oh, 60 cm ? 　Very big.
６０ｃｍですか？　　とても大きいですね。
60 cm is maximum.
６０ｃｍというのは最大でということです。
It's delicious but very dangerous. Because it falls from the tree, it's dangerous.
ジャックフルーツは美味しいんですが、とても危険です。 もし木から落ちてきたら、危険ですから。
I'm hungry now, so I want to eat it.
今、私はお腹がすいていますから、食べたいです。
Actually Don Qui has Jackfruits.
●Don Qui is the name of a discount store in Japan. 　　　ドンキ（ドン・キホーテ）は日本の安売り店チェーンの名前です。
実はドンキにジャックフルーツが置いてありますよ。

Don Quixote ! Oh, really ?

I was so happy to find it at breakfast buffet.
ホテルの朝食バイキングで、 　　ジャックフルーツを見つけた時は本当にうれしかったです。
Jackfruit was chewy, I love it. I have remembered it after returning to Japan.
●モチモチした、弾力のある、歯ごたえのある、噛み応えのある　　　　chewy　 　　　　chew　（噛む）　の形容詞形 　　　　スルメやグミ、フランスパン、お餅など
ジャックフルーツは弾力のある歯ごたえで、とても好きでした。 日本に帰ってからも、よく思い出しています。
And I like cutter sambol.
また、私はカッターサンボルが好きでした。
I sprinkled cutter sambol on the curry, 　　then, the taste was rich.
●ふりかける　　　sprinkle
カレーにカッターサンボルをかけて食べると、 　　コクがあって美味しかったです。
Cutter sambol was mixed shaved coconut, 　　maldive fish, onion and chilli pepper 　　 like furikake in Japan.
カッターサンボルは削ったココナッツとモルディブフィッシュと 　　玉葱と唐辛子を合わせた、日本のふりかけのようなものでした。
According to my driver, 　　there's a manual coconut shaving machine 　　at in Sri Lankan home.
ドライバーによると、スリランカの家庭には、ココナッツの実を削る手動の機械が 　　あるそうです。
Yes, yes,my house has it.
はい、はい、そうです、私の家にもあります。
String hopper was tasty, 　　it looked like Japanese thin noodle called soumen, 　　I mixed it with curry.
日本のそうめんにそっくりのストリングホッパーもおいしくて、 　　カレーと混ぜました。
After the breakfast, 　　fortunately I could have a look around the wedding 　　inside the hotel.
朝食後、幸運なことに私はホテル内での結婚式の見学することができました。
It was the wedding ceremony of Ishan(name) 　　and Erandathi(name).
イシアンさんとエランダーティーさんの結婚式でした。
I heard that the wedding will start at 10 o'clock, 　　so I waited at from10 minutes to 10 o'clock, 　　but it started at 11 o'clock.
結婚式は１０時から、レセプションホールであると聞いたので、 　　私は１０時１０分前から待っていましたが、 　　始まったのは１１時でした。
It's very normal in Sri Lanka.
それはスリランカではとても普通のことです。
I thought time passed by so slowly 　　in Sri Lanka unlike Japan.
日本と違って、スリランカでは時間がゆっくり流れていると思いました。
You came to Japan that is strict about time, 　　do you miss Sri Lanka ?

To my surprise, 　　it was a lively wedding ceremony 　　with Kandian dancers.
驚いたことに、キャンディアンダンサーまでいた 　　とてもにぎやかな結婚式でした。
It's a traditional Sri Lankan wedding.

I asked my driver, 　　"Are they rich ?"
私はドライバーに質問しました。 　　「彼らはお金持ちなんですか？」
He told me, "No, even ordinary homes invite dancers.

Then, I took a walk around Kandy, 　　I saw some parking places of elephants.

It was a place that elephants stand stood by 　　until the parade at night.

Elephant driver mahout watered 　　a cute baby elephant with a hose.

It's tiny and cute.
とても小さくてかわいいですね。
The baby elephant was scrubed with a yellow thing, 　　so I asked my driver, 　　"What is the yellow thing ?"
その小象は黄色いもので体をこすられていましたから、 　　私はドライバーに聞きました。 　　「あの黄色いものは何ですか？」
He answered, "That is a coconut skin."
彼は「あれはココナッツの皮です。」と答えました。
I always wash pots with a scrubbing brush 　　called "Kamenoko-tawashi"in Japanese 　　made from coconut skin.
私はココナッツの皮で作ったたわし、 　　日本語では「亀の子たわし」でいつも鍋を洗います。
Kamenoko means child of turtle.
亀の子は亀の子どもを意味します。
What is tawashi ?
たわしって何ですか？
Scrubbing brush.
ごしごしこするブラシのことです。

へえ〜本当に？
Kamenoko-tawashi means scrubbing brush 　　shaped like a child of turtle.
亀の子たわしは亀の子の形をしたたわしという意味ですね。
"Kamenoko tawashi" reminds me Sri Lanka.

Elephant hair is hard like wire, 　　so I thought coconut skin is comfortable for elephant.
象の毛はまるで針金のように硬いので、、 　　象にとっては、ココナッツの皮は気持ちがいいんだと思いました。
Palm has no place to throw away. 　　palm fruit…coconut juice,coconut milk. 　　　　　　　　　coconut candle, coconut soap 　　coconut shell…feed, manure,charcoal 　　coconut skin…rope, scrubbing brush 　　palm leaf…broom,stick 　　tree trunk…roofing material, post material
ヤシの木は捨てるところがないですね。 　　実　　　　　ココナッツジュース、ココナッツミルク、ろうそく、石鹸 　　実の殻　　飼料、肥料、ヤシ殻炭 　　実の外皮　ロープ、たわし 　　葉の中軸　掃除のほうき、料理の串 　　木の幹　　屋根材、柱材

I was surprised that the baby elephant cried often, 　　compared to quiet adult elephants.
静かな大人の象にくらべて、その小象がよく鳴くのに驚きました。
It's the same as little children cry.
人間でも、小さな子どもが泣くのと同じですね。
And I saw the baby elephant was 　　drinking water by himself 　　with a hose by his trunk.
そして私はその小象が鼻でホースを使って、 　　自分で水を飲んでいるところを見ました。
I thought elephants are clever with their trunk 　　and smart animals.
象は器用で賢い動物だと思いました。
I ate tasty Parippuwadei and Fishrotti 　　at a cheap restaurant called "Hotel"for lunch.
お昼は”ホテル”と呼ばれている大衆食堂で、 　　美味しいパリップワデーとフィッシュロティ―を食べました。
There was a pay phone in Kandy Station.
キャンディ駅の構内に公衆電話がありました。
You know, I didn't have mobile phone there, 　　so I sometimes called my husband in Japan.
ご存知のように、私は携帯電話を持っていませんでしたから、 　　時々、日本の夫のところに電話をかけていました。
I gave it a try, I made an international call 　　with 5 repees in my wallet..
私は”だめもと”で財布にあった５ルピーで 　　国際電話をかけてみました。
Then, a miracle happened !
すると奇跡が起こりました！
I talked to my husband in Japan for 5 seconds ! It was an unbelievable story but it was true.
５秒間、日本の夫と話せたんですよ！ うそのような、本当の話なんです。
In the evening, 　　I went to see the Kandian Dance performance 　　in the big hall.
夕方、大きなホールにキャンディアンダンスの公演を見に行きました。
The impressive dancer who had danced the day before, 　　was dancing there.
前日の晩に見た印象的なダンサーがその公演でも踊っていました。
I couldn't take my eyes off him.
彼のダンスに見とれてしまいました。
By the way, I love the song 　　"I can't take my eyes off you." 　　by Frankie Valli.
余談ですが、フランキーヴァリの「君の瞳に恋してる」の歌が大好きです。
Very popular.
とても人気がありますね。
Kandian dancers need hard traning 　　to be a professional.
キャンディアンダンスの名手になるためには、厳しい修行が必要だそうです。
After the Kandian dance, 　　there was a walking on the charcoal fire 　　as a main event of the day.
キャンディアンダンスの後、その日のメインイベントの 　　炭火歩きがありました。
He walked barefoot on the charcoal fire, 　　it looked hot and I couldn't see it.
炭火の上を素足で歩くんですが、熱そうで見ておれませんでした。
Besides, he faned the charcoal fire 　　to raise the temperature, 　　I didn't like such a show.
しかも、温度を上げるために、うちわで炭火をあおいでいましたが 　　こんな見世物が好きではありませんでした。
Then, my driver took me to the restaurant 　　overlooking the illumination 　　of the beautiful Kandy lake.
それからキャンディ湖の美しいイルミネーションが見渡せる 　　レストランにドライバーが連れていってくれました。
A live music band was singing songs, 　　so I requested "Taxi Karaya." 　　including experience in prison.
生バンドが歌を歌っていたので、刑務所の体験談を含む 　　「タクシーカラヤ」をリクエストしました。
Oh, Taxi Karaya ! It's a little bit impolite.
ああ、タクシーカラヤ！ それはちょっと無作法な言葉です。
The live "Taxi Karaya" in Sri Lanka 　　was much better than YouTube.
やっぱりユーチューブで聞く「タクシーカラヤ」より、 　　本場のスリランカで聴く生の「タクシーカラヤ」はよかったです。

First, I do exercise to prevent dizzy on my bed.
まず、私はベッドの上でめまいを予防するための体操をします。
Before breakfast, 　　 I practice typing on computer with blind touch. I borrow some books from the library, 　　I type just impresive thing from the books.
朝ごはんの前に、私はブラインドタッチでコンピュータの 　　タイピング練習をします。 図書館から本を借りているんですが、その本の中から 　　印象的なことだけをタイプします。
After breakfast, I walk 6000 steps inside my house 　　while studying English by my voice recorder.
朝食後、私はボイスレコーダーで英語の勉強をしながら、 　　家の中を６０００歩歩きます。
Next, I go up and down the stairs while practicing 　　Cantonese,Mandarin Chinese 　　and Japanese long ago stories in English 　　by my voice recorder.
次に、私はボイスレコーダーで広東語と中国標準語と日本昔話を 　　英語で練習しながら階段の上り下りをします。
Long ago story means folk lore ?

私は３つの昔話を暗記しました、 　　「浦島太郎」　「こぶとりじいさん」　「ねずみの嫁いり」です。
For example, "The Mouse's Wedding".
例えば、「ねずみの嫁入り」とか。
The Mouse's Wedding. I heard that for the first time.
ねずみの結婚。 初めて聞きました。

昔むか〜し……いえいえいえ間違えました、ハハハ。
This is an old story about a mouse.
これは一匹のねずみについての昔話です。
Long long ago, there was a beautiful young mouse.
昔むか〜し、きれいな若いネズミがいました。
The parents were always saying, 　　"We must look for the …… Oh, sorry, I always can talk it at home, 　　　but in the different environment.
両親はいつも言いました、「私たちは……を見つけなければ」 ああ、ごめんなさい、いつもは家で話せるのに、違う環境になると……

大丈夫、大丈夫ですよ。
"We must look for the most wonderful man for our daughter."
「私たちは娘のために一番素晴らしい男を見つけなければならない。」
One day the father said to his wife, 　　"Mother, it is the sun that is the most wonderful, 　　………  Oh !　　I forgot it again.
ある日のこと、父さんは彼の妻に言いました、 　　「母さん、一番素晴らしいのはお日様だよ。…………」 ああ！　　また忘れてしまいました。

Talk and tell are different.
●talk 　　　（相手と）話す、会話する、話し合う 　　　話し相手を伴う、コミュニケーションをとっているイメージ 　　　I talked with my husband about child's education. 　　　　　私は子どもの教育について夫と話し合いました。 　　　We talked on the phone. 　　　　　私たちは電話で話しました。 ●tell 　　　相手にある内容や情報を伝える、情報の伝達に重点が置かれている 　　　だから　tell　の後には、伝えることや、伝える相手を表す単語が続く 　　　talk　との違いは、話す内容の方に焦点が当てられている 　　　I will tell you my secret. 　　　　　私の秘密を教えます。 　　 Could you tell me your e-mail address ? 　　　　　Eメールアドレスを教えて頂けますか？
talk とtell　は違います。

"The Old Man with a Lump"　　 Here we go (Let's begin.). Long long ago, there lived an old man 　　who had a lump on his cheek.
「こぶとりじいさん」　　 はじまりはじまり〜。 昔むか〜し、ほっぺたにこぶのあるおじいさんが住んでいました。
One day he went to a mountain to find firewood.
ある日、おじいさんはたき木をさがしに山へ行きました。
It suddenly began to rain, so he went to a small temple 　　on the mountain to dry.
突然雨が降り始めたので、おじいさんは乾かすために 　　山の中の小さなお寺に行きました。
He slept until he heard some music 　　outside the temple.
その寺の外の音楽を聴くまで、彼は眠りました。
There were many red and blue demons, 　　dancing, drinking and enjoying themselves.
踊ったり、酒を飲んだりして楽しんでいるたくさんの赤鬼や青鬼がいました。
He forgot to be afraid 　　and joined the group of dancing demons.
おじいさんは怖いのも忘れて、踊っている鬼たちの輪に参加しました。
All the demons enjoyed his wonderful dancing.
鬼たちはみんなおじいさんの素晴らしい踊りを楽しみました。
When it became light bright in the morning, 　　the leader of the demons said to him, 　　"You are a wonderful dancer. 　　You can come tomorrow night. 　　Until that time, 　　　　I will keep your important lump."
朝、明るくなってきた時に、鬼たちの親分がおじいさんに言いました、 　　「お前は踊りの名手じゃ。明日の晩も来ていいよ。 　　それまでわしがお前の大切なこぶをあずかっておこう。」
The demon took his lump away.
その鬼はおじいさんのこぶを取りました。
When he returned home 　　and told his old wife the story, 　　the mean old man next door listened to 　　what he said.
おじいさんが家に帰って、年老いた妻にその話しをしている時に、 　　隣の意地悪じいさんがおじいさんが話したことを聞いていました。
The mean old man had a lump, too, and that night 　　he went to the temple before the nice old man 　　and waited for the time to come.
その意地悪じいさんにもこぶがありました、その晩、 　　意地悪じいさんはやさしいおじいさんが車でに寺に行って、 　　鬼たちが来る時間まで待ちました。
Soon many demons began to dance.
まもなく、たくさんの鬼たちが踊り始めました。
He was very afraid of demons, 　　but he wanted to have his lump taken away, 　　so he started to dance.
意地悪じいさんは鬼がとても怖かったのですが、 　　こぶを取ってほしかったので、踊り始めました。
But his dancing and singing were was very poor.
でも意地悪じいさんの踊りと歌はとてもへたでした。
The demons got very angry 　　and put the nice man's lump on his other cheek.
鬼たちはとても怒って、 　　意地悪じいさんのもう片方のほっぺたに 　　やさしいおじいさんのこぶをくっつけました。
2 lumps.
２つのこぶになったんですね。
Ya ya ya. I forgot it, sorry.
はいはいはい、そうです。 すみません、忘れてしまって。
It's fine, it's fine. It's a good practice.
だいじょうぶ、だいじょうぶですよ。 これはいい練習になりますね。
And then, I practice the piano every morning, 　　I review my 8 songs each a day 　　out of 30 songs on rotation.
それから私は毎朝、ピアノの練習をします、 　　ローテーションで３０曲のうちの８曲ずつを一日に復習します。
Before taking a bath, I dance Bon Dance during singing. 　　"Tsukiga〜♪detadeta〜♪"
お風呂に入る前に、私は歌いながら盆踊りを踊ります。 　　「月が〜♪出た出た〜♪」
Then, I do Radio Exercise by my voice recorder. I practice the song of Radio Exercise on the piano 　　from 7 years ago, 　　 and recorded the playing by the voice recorder.
それからボイスレコーダーでラジオ体操をします。 私は７年前にラジオ体操の曲をピアノで練習して、 　　その演奏をボイスレコーダーに録音しました。
And I do Kung Fu for 1 minute.
それから１分間カンフーをします。
I do exercise to prevent dizzy on my bed again.
私はまたベッドの上でめまいを予防する体操をします。
Wow, my routine is simple.
へえ〜、私の日課はシンプルですよ。
No wonder, you are working now. I'm not working.
それはそうですよ、先生は働いているんですから。 私は働いていませんからね。
