【ピーターラビットを見た！】～60歳からのイギリス旅～

(1)I got up at 5:30 and we had breakfast at the pretty B＆B restaurant at 7:30.

私は５時半に起き、そして私達は７時半に、きれいなB＆Bのレストランで朝食をとりました。

(2)It was a British style breakfast.

それは英国式朝食でした。

(3)Millet serial and fresh fruits were so tasty.

雑穀シリアルや新鮮な果物はとてもおいしかったです。

(4)I thought that small B＆B like it was better than big hotel.

私は大きなホテルよりも、この様な小さなＢ＆Ｂの方がいいと思いました。

（4.5)You know, B＆B means a small hotel with Bed and Breakfast

by almost family-run.

ご存知のように、ビーアンドビーというのは、ほとんどが家族経営による

ベッドと朝食つきの小さなホテルのことです。

(5)I told the orner at the kitchen,

"Thank you so much for giving us 2 beautiful rooms.

We really appreciate it."

私は台所にいたオーナーに、「きれいなお部屋を２つもありがとうございます。

とても感謝しています。」と言いました。

(6)After breakfast, we checked out and asked her,

" We are going to go sightseeing in York.

Could you keep our bags until 11:20 a.m. and call a taxi for us at 11:20 ?"

朝食の後、私達はチェックアウトをして、彼女に頼みました

１１時２０分まで荷物を預かって頂けますか？

I saw an ambulance.

(7)Yesterday we enjoyed walking on the castle wall,

so next we tried to walk on another wall

between Micklegate Bar and Victoria Bar.

昨日、私達は城壁歩きを楽しみましたから、次は別の城壁、

ミクルゲートバーとビクトリアバーの間を歩いてみました。

(8)I was really disappointed with the view.

I didn't understand why it was popular for visitors.

私はその風景にとてもがっかりしてしまいました。

(9)Castle Wall between Bootham Bar and Monk Bar was much more beautiful

compared with that.

In spite of the rain, someone was moving

by the open-car.

雨にもかかわらず、誰かがオープンカーで

This is a school uniform shop.

ここは学校の制服のお店です。

Then, I didn't know the meaning of

"OLD SCHOOL BARBER SHOP".

その時、私は「オールドスクール床屋」の

意味がわかりませんでした。

Now I search for information

about it on line,

it means traditional style barber shop.

今、ネットで調べたら、それは昔ながらの

トラディショナルなスタイルの床屋という意味でした。

I like the retro atmosphere.

私はそのレトロな雰囲気が好きです。

●先生によると、OLD SCHOOL 　はアメリカでもよく使われているそうです。

　その意味は、古い物、昔の物（前世代のスタイル、音楽、映画、考え方や方法など）　

　　　　　　　　　古き良き時代の～

　　通常、誉め言葉として使われる。古いけど、魅力的というニュアンス。

　　新しい時代のものと比較して「時代遅れ」という悪い意味ではなく、

　　むしろ手作りなど「より高い水準」を意味して用いられ、

　　「今ではかつてのようにいい物を作れなくなった」というような文脈で使われることが多い。

　　You are very old school DJ.　（あなたは昔のスタイルのDJですね）

　　I like old school music. 　（私は昔のスタイルの音楽が好きです。）

　　Jimmy Hendrix is old school . （ジミー・ヘンドリックスは今聞いても、かっこいいね。）

(16)It was time to go back to the B＆B.

B＆Bへ帰る時間になりました。

I saw a building with interesting windows.

私は面白い窓のあるビルを見ました。

They are The Beatles from the UK.

イギリス出身のビートルズですね。

I like the combination of colors of

(17)We asked taxi to call for us at the B＆B at 11:20.

１１時２０分にそのB＆Bへ私達を迎えにくるようにタクシーを頼んでありました。

(18)We received our baggage and went from the B＆B to York station

by the taxi.

私達は荷物を受け取り、そのタクシーでB＆Bからヨーク駅まで行きました。

これは入り口のステンドグラスのドアーです。

(19)"The B＆B was the most impressive hotel in my trip.

そのB＆Bは私の旅で最も印象的なホテルでした。

(20)All the rooms were kept clean and tidy,

they served tasty healthy diet,

they were very kind and friendly,

but they were not always in the reception desk.

どの部屋も掃除が行き届いていて、おいしくて健康的な食事を提供してくれ、

とても親切でフレンドリー………ところが、いつも彼らはフロントにいませんでした（笑）。

No-one was here.

誰もここにいませんでした。

(21)I think it was good to have different experiences

while I stayed in Britain.

イギリスに滞在している間に、いろいろな経験をしたことはよかったと思います。

(22)We took the 12:15 train from York station to Middlesbrough station.

私達はヨーク駅からミドルズブラ駅まで１２時１５分発の列車に乗りました。

If we sit down the seat in the first class

by mistake, we have to pay a penalty.

もし間違えてファーストクラスの席に座ると、

罰金を払わなければなりません。

(23)The ticket was OFF-PEAK ticket,

but we could sit on the reserved seat.

そのチケットはオフピークチケットなのに、私達は予約席に座ることができました。

(24)I can't understand British Railway system after all.

私はやっぱりイギリスの鉄道システムが理解できません。

(25)My husband said, "Let's see……where is seat 7 ? "

夫は「え～っと……７番の席はどこかな？」と言いました。

(45)We bought 2 bottles of smoothie and 2 bags of potato chips

(crisps in British English) at the station kiosk for lunch.

私達は昼食に、駅の売店で２本のスムージーと２袋のポテトチップスを買いました。

(46)The name of the smoothie was interesting, it was "Innocent"

そのスムージーの名前が面白かったんです。それは”イノセント”でした。

it was used, say, "Innocent drug" "Innocent tumor".

今、インターネットでその意味を調べてみたら、例えば「無害の薬」とか「良性腫瘍」とかにも使われるんですね。

つまり、そのスムージーは悪い添加物を含まない無害のスムージーですということですね。

(55)The train for Whitby left from platform 1 at 2:04 p.m. on time.

ウイットビー行きの列車はプラットフォーム１番から午後２時４分に時間通り出発しました。

This elderly lady was operating her smartphone.

この年配のレディーはスマホを操作していました。

I found a beautiful mountain over there.

窓から景色を見ていたら、向こうの方にきれいな山を見つけました。

(68)I was so happy to see the real world of Peter Rabbit.

私は本物のピーターラビットの世界を見れて、とてもうれしかったです。

This giant hare weighs 12kg.

この巨大な野うさぎは１２キロあります。

I didn't know that there are

such huge hares in the UK.

こんなに巨大な野うさぎ達がイギリスにいるなんて

知りませんでした。

(69)We arrived at Whitby station, final destination, at 3:36 p.m..

私達は午後３時３６分に最終目的地のウイットビー駅に到着しました。
